Reel Star Dream Drop is the jackpot-flavoured cousin of Relax Gaming’s base Reel Star, dropped in October 2023. Same 5×3 grid, same 15 fixed paylines, same disco-arcade vibe drenched in pink and purple neon, but the math gets rerouted to feed a six-tier progressive pool. That’s the trade-off right up front.

The core engine still runs on the Star Reels Collection. Star symbols pay as scatters anywhere on the reels, scaling 1x, 3x, 15x, 50x, 250x for one through five. Then the Upgrade symbol kicks in and doubles every Star payout per Upgrade landed, multiplicatively. One Upgrade = 2x. Two = 4x. Three = 8x, and so on. Stack a few of those with five Stars and the base game suddenly punches well above its weight, all the way up to the 8,000x line cap.

Free Spins want three scatters on reels 2, 3 and 4 only, which is a tighter ask than people expect. The setup is fully randomised. You might land 15 spins with a 5x multiplier and 7 Moving Wilds, or 5 spins with 1x and 2 Wilds. Honestly, the variance inside the variance is the spin’s whole personality. A good roll matters more than a long roll here, and that can sting when the dice come up cold. During the round only regular pay symbols and Moving Wilds appear, with the Wilds shuffling to fresh positions on every spin as overlays.

The headline act is the Jackpot Spin, a random pre-spin event that swaps the reel set for blanks and Reel Star DD symbols. Land one DD on each of the five reels and you trigger the Dream Drop wheel. And here’s the bit I actually love: the wheel is guaranteed to award one of the six tiers. Mega seeds at €1.5M (capped €2M), Major at €37,500, Daily at €700, then Maxi €100, Midi €5, Rapid €1. No “spin and walk away with nothing” outcome, which is rarer in this segment than it sounds.

The catch sits in the RTP. 94% instead of the base Reel Star’s 96%, because Relax skims a 12% bet contribution into the jackpot pool. Fair maths, but you’re paying for that wheel whether it ever fires for you or not. No Buy Bonus and no Ante Bet either, so you can’t shortcut your way to the action. High volatility, neon everywhere, and a slightly cruel waiting game. That’s the deal.
