Yggdrasil released Nice Catch DoubleMax in May 2023, and it kicked off a small sub-series before Nice Catch Too DoubleMax arrived. The setup is Caribbean fishing without the cheesy pirate stuff. Bamboo poles wrapped in green vines lean against sandy cliffs, turquoise water sits in the background, and the symbols mix card-suit lows with an anchor, a worn sneaker, a bottle of hot sauce, and tropical fish carrying gold-bordered prize tags. It's a 5×3 grid with 243 ways, RTP 96.10%, high volatility, and a hit frequency of 24.68%. Stakes run from $0.20 to $20.
The hook is what Yggdrasil does with cash-collect mechanics. Fish symbols come pre-printed with values from 1x to 100x bet, and they don't pay anything on their own. They just sit there. The Fisherman only ever shows up on reel 5, and when he does, he sweeps every Fish currently on the board and hands you the whole stack in one go. A screen plastered with 50x and 100x Fish without him? Dead weight. Frustrating to watch, honestly, but that's the tension the math is built around.
Above the reels sits the DoubleMax ladder, a row of stylised fish silhouettes climbing x1, x2, x4, x8, x16 in base play and pushing through x32, x64, x128 up to x256 in the bonus. Multipliers light up when Fish land on consecutive reels starting from the leftmost. Skip a reel and the chain just breaks – same logic as standard ways pays. Whatever level you reach applies to everything that spin, cash fish and regular wins both.
Free spins drop on 3, 4, or 5 Bonus scatters for 8, 11, or 14 spins. But before the round even starts, there's a Gamble step that lets you risk the trigger to bump it up a tier. Lose the gamble and the whole bonus evaporates. Zero return. Inside the round, the Bonus scatter gets stripped from the reels, and every Fisherman that lands adds +1 spin while doubling the prize values on every visible Fish for the rest of the session. Stack two or three Fishermen and the doubling compounds, which is where the 23,972x max win actually becomes reachable.
And if you'd rather skip the wait, there are buys. 100x bet gives you a random tier (rolls 8, 11, or 14 spins). 500x bet guarantees a 20-spin session, which is the longest the maths allows. Or the Golden Bet adds 0.5x to your stake and seeds extra Bonus and Fisherman symbols across the reels. The 500x option feels steep, sure, but it's the cleanest path to a serious shot at the cap.
