Mega Masks dropped in March 2020 and it still feels like one of Relax Gaming’s more visually ambitious base-game releases. The setup is a sunken temple courtyard, stone pillars choked with turquoise and green foliage, and a cast of masks pulled from completely different lost civilizations. There’s a red Mesoamerican face, a horned blue tribal piece, a green warrior, and a gold ceremonial mask. They sit on a 5×5 grid running 41 paylines, with stone-carved card royals doing the low-pay work.

The signature trick is reel fusion. When the Mega Symbol mechanic fires in the base game (it’s random), two or more adjacent reels collapse into one block showing a single giant symbol. That block can cover anything from 2×2 up to a full 5×5, and it counts as a stack of symbol hits across those 41 lines. Visually it’s the moment the slot earns its name. You watch the reels physically merge, and a huge mask stares back at you. Pretty satisfying, even when the win itself is moderate.

Now the interesting structural choice. There’s no Buy Bonus button. Instead Relax built the Mega Bet system, a permanent toggle you can leave on. MB1 adds 20% to every spin and pushes RTP up to 96.41% with volatility climbing to 4/5. MB2 adds 50% per spin, maxes out the trigger frequency, lifts RTP to 96.61%, and sends volatility to 5/5. Default play sits at 96.21% with medium variance and roughly a 25% hit rate. It’s a continuous bet-enhancement model rather than a one-shot buy, and that’s still a rare design even now.

Free spins arrive when three Golden Mask scatters land on reels 1, 3, and 5. Specifically those reels. The other two never carry the bonus symbol, which sounds flexible until you realise how rigid the condition actually is. You get ten spins with the Mega Symbol firing more often.

Honest take? The underlying math is a fairly traditional payline slot dressed in spectacular art. The 2,451x cap is genuinely small by 2026 standards, and the lack of any jackpot layer means there’s no surprise ceiling above it. If you’re chasing 50,000x dreams, look elsewhere. But if you want a slow, atmospheric session where the visuals do most of the heavy lifting and the Mega Bet lets you tune the variance to your mood, Mega Masks holds up better than most six-year-old releases.
