Fairytales get reskinned constantly in slot land, and the Jack and the Beanstalk story has probably been done a dozen times by now. Jacks Beanstalk is NextGen Gaming's swing at it (now under the Light & Wonder umbrella), and it landed back in January 2015. The art leans full storybook: rolling green hills, a sky dotted with cotton clouds, a beanstalk twisting up the reel frame, and a young blonde hero in a green tunic who shows up as the top-paying character. Five reels, three rows, 25 fixed paylines. It looks its age, sure, but the woodcut-style royals (A through 10 in muddy greens and browns) actually fit the vibe better than glossier remakes do.

The math is honest about its era. RTP sits at 95.45%, which is below where most modern releases land, and the medium volatility keeps things predictable rather than punishing. Max win caps at 2,500x, hit by stacking five Jacks across a line. By 2026 standards that ceiling feels modest, but the path to it is straightforward enough that you can actually picture it happening.

The signature mechanic is the Up Wild, and it only fires in free spins. Land a magic bean scatter on reel 2, 3, or 4, and a beanstalk sprouts from beneath that reel, climbing one row per spin and leaving a wild behind each step. Three free spins, but a fresh bean on another reel resets the counter and starts a second beanstalk growing alongside the first. So you can end up with two reels half-filled with wilds at the same time. It's a clever little visual hook that ties the mechanic right to the theme.

The second feature is the Golden Egg pick round. Three eggs anywhere on reels 2-4 trigger it, you pick three geese, and prizes range from 25x up to 2,500x the trigger bet. Classic pick-me, no surprises. Here's the slight bummer though: the two features stay strictly separate. Golden Egg can't fire during Up Wild spins, and vice versa. You never get the “everything firing at once” moment some modern slots build toward.

Outside the features, Jack himself acts as a regular wild and helps base-game lines complete. No buy bonus, no jackpot, no multipliers, no ante bet. Just a fairly minimal feature set built around one decent mechanic. Is it groundbreaking in 2026? Not really. But the Up Wild still looks great in motion, and players who like older NextGen builds will recognize the rhythm immediately.
