Most alien slots play the abduction angle for cheap laughs and call it a day. Invaders Takeover from Light & Wonder (the NextGen studio side of the house, released January 25, 2024) actually builds a mechanic around the bit, then quietly hands you a 14,596x ceiling and walks off whistling. The base grid is a 6×4 with 4,096 ways, framed in that neon-green border NextGen loves, with a goofy scientist clutching a green flask and a cow getting tractor-beamed into a UFO. Cartoonish, sure. The math underneath is not.

Here is where it gets interesting. UFO Wilds only land on the middle four reels in the base game, which sounds like a restriction until you hit the Alien Attack Bonus. Two scatters land, the ship’s computer either flashes Threat Detected or politely tells you to move along, and if you get the green light those scatters mutate into Bonus Wilds while a laser gun strafes the grid dropping three to five extra wilds, including positions on reels 1 and 6. That is the only path to outer-reel wilds in this game. Double luck to trigger it though, which is the one design choice I find frustrating: random feature on top of a random spawn condition feels stingy.

The free spins entry is its own little ritual. Three portal scatters open a planet-picking screen where each scatter buys you one shot at three planets, and each detonation reveals 1-6 spins. Roll bad and you walk in with five. Stack three sixes and you’ve got eighteen before you even start.

And then the grid grows. Four new positions snap on above reels 2 through 5, ways jump to 10,000, and the real show begins. Wild lands, pays out, then flies up into the new row and locks there for the rest of the feature. Stack two on a reel, that’s a x2. Three is x3. Now stack wilds on a second reel and the multipliers don’t add, they multiply against each other. A x3 reel meeting a x4 reel is x12, not seven. That’s the compounding ladder pushing toward the 14,596x cap (oddly specific number, no?).

Worth flagging: the bet only stretches to $15.00, which is narrow for a high-vol game where one good free spins lock could clear your weekly losses. The Premium Play side-bet at 1.5x stake adds a Space Wheel of multipliers and free-spin wedges on bigger base hits, and there’s a five-step Gamble dial on any 5x win if you want to push your luck twice. RTP sits at 96.10%, volatility is high, and the cow, predictably, never gets a happy ending.
