Habanero released this one in late January 2017, a few days ahead of the Lunar New Year switchover from Monkey to Rooster. The studio runs an annual zodiac drop, and Fire Rooster is the 2017 entry, anchored on the fire element that gives the Chinese sexagenary cycle that particular year its name. It's a festival slot through and through.
The grid is the standard Habanero 5×3 with 243 ways. No paylines to count. Any matching symbol cluster from the leftmost reel rightward pays, which on a low-volatility build like this one means the hit frequency stays high. You'll see a small win on roughly every other spin. The trade-off, of course, is ceiling. Base-game pays are modest, and the headline reward sits on the Crowned Rooster Wild at 1,500x for a full five-of-a-kind line. Decent, not spectacular.
What gives the game its character is the Free Games round. Three Scatters award 8 spins, four pay 18, and five drop the full 28. During the round, every Crowned Rooster that lands on the grid explodes across the cells around it, swapping out the non-Scatter symbols nearby for a single matching pay icon. The mechanic is closer to a one-step random-wild expansion than a true cascade, but on a 243-ways grid the effect can flip a dead spin into a multi-line hit on whatever symbol caught the burn. One well-placed Rooster in the middle column is often enough.
There's also a Random Progressive Jackpot hovering above the reels in production builds, labeled Jackpot Race, with a single tier that triggers on any spin regardless of outcome. The demo shows the meter ticking through the eight-thousand-euro range. The base RTP runs 96.14% at the standard tier, with operators able to deploy a 98% version if they choose. Two tiers, one game, configured on the back end.
The visual side leans into Year of the Rooster motifs without overdoing it. Hanging red lanterns frame the upper corners, cherry blossom branches drift across the edges, and the symbol set mixes the usual royals 9 through A in carved Chinese style with a horned dragon mask, a green jade crystal, a purple lotus in a vase, and a small caterpillar in a basket. The dragon mask in particular feels off-theme for a rooster slot, but it lands fine inside the broader Chinese New Year palette. Habanero is an official Respinix partner studio.
