Genii took the old Book formula and shrank it onto a farm. Book of Chickens runs on a cramped 3×3 grid with just five fixed paylines, which feels almost cosy compared to the sprawling reel sets you see everywhere else. The art leans hard into cartoon countryside: a red barn at sunset, sunflower fields, baskets of corn, and a trio of wide-eyed chickens who clearly think they're the main event. Tomatoes, carrots, onions and cabbages fill out the low end. A sly fox and a farm dog sit above them.

The golden open book does double duty. It's the bonus scatter, and it stands in for the chickens symbol on any line win. Land three of them anywhere and you're into Free Spins, which hands you five spins and picks one symbol at random to become the special golden expander. If that chosen symbol shows up, it stretches to fill its reel after wins are paid, exactly the mechanic Book of Dead made famous years ago. One quirk worth knowing: if the chickens or the book itself gets picked as the special, the book stops covering for the chickens that round. Retriggers are possible, so the five spins can stretch further.

Five free spins isn't much of a runway, honestly. You're betting on that single expanding symbol doing the heavy lifting, and on a 3×3 board there just isn't a lot of room for it to land big. High variance, basically, though Genii doesn't publish the numbers so I won't pretend to know the exact figure.

Base play has its own trick. The Spin Streak respin fires at random after a spin, locking one symbol type and respinning until something pays. There's also a BonusGO buy button if you'd rather skip straight to the books, plus a little bonus dial in the corner that looks important but does nothing except track frequency. Pure decoration, that one. Cute game, simple rules, and the farm theme is genuinely charming even if the format is tight.
